Great improvements at Haileybury Turnford
We continue to rapidly improve the quality of education we are providing for our community, which was clearly identified by Ofsted in May 2018.
Here are some examples of our successes in the past 18 months.
We always welcome visits from interested families to see us in action.
New building
We have secured funding for a new English, Humanities and Science building – construction is well underway.
New teaching facilities
Two fully refurbished Science laboratories completed and over 100 new student PCs in classrooms.
Year 7
A greater number of applications and places offered for Year 7 compared to previous years.
Sustained improvement in Year 11 Maths results
Students in Maths are making greater progress than students of the same ability in all other schools nationally.
Improvements in Year 11 English and Science results
Students in English and Science performed more strongly in 2019 as a result of stronger teaching and additional revision workshops.
Sustained improvement in Year 7-11 student attendance
Student attendance was 94.4% in 2018-19 – a nearly 2% increase in the past two academic years. This was sustained in 2019-20 until schools closed in March 2020.
Sixth Form
Large Year 12 intakes in September 2019 & 2020, with over 160 students in our Sixth Form in total.
Our Progress Score for A Level Performance was the highest progress score amongst local 16-18 state school provision in 2019. This ranks us 26th out of 125 Hertfordshire 16-18 providers and 16th for academies and maintained schools.
A Level performance
A further rise in % A*-B grades in 2019 compared to 2018 – a 15% increase in % A*-B grades over two years. Further increases were seen in Summer 2020.
Great progress for students in A Level Accounting and Economics
The progress achieved by our sixth form students in A Level Accounting placed Haileybury Turnford 9th nationally in 2019 amongst all centres offering this subject.
The progress achieved by our sixth form students in A Level Economics placed Haileybury Turnford 23rd nationally in 2019 (and 2nd in Hertfordshire) for all centres offering this subject.
Vocational qualifications
Strong performance in the new, reformed BTEC and other vocational qualifications in Year 11 and Year 13 in 2019 and 2020.
University applications
All students who applied to university in 2019 & 2020 were successful with securing a place, including two students securing places at Cambridge and Oxford universities: 3 Oxbridge students in the past two years.
Student behaviour and relationships
A significant reduction in fixed term exclusions and other behaviour issues compared to the previous academic year.
Partnership with Haileybury
Increased opportunities for students, including Year 7 masterclasses, science lessons, maths lessons and Spanish lessons; membership of Combined Cadet Force; use of climbing wall.
Partnership with partner primary schools
Increased links with Brookland Junior School and Burleigh Primary School, including specialist music and Spanish teaching from our staff to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
Co-curricular clubs and activities, trips and visits
Increased range of opportunities for students, including trips to Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Spain and the USA.
Staffing
Low staff turnover, and well-qualified, specialist teaching staff across all subject areas.
