Update from Government on A Level results: Calculated Grades abandoned

As you have no doubt heard this afternoon the Government has abandoned the system of Calculated grades which were issued to you last week, and replaced them with Centre-assessed grades.

We are glad that the Government has decided to use Centre-assessed grades and we will provide more information about next steps as soon as we can.

We believe that there are no changes to BTEC and CTEC grades currently proposed.

We will be issuing all Centre-assessed grades as soon as we are able to.  We know there will be many questions about the implications for university places.  We are waiting for more information from the Government and universities which we expect to follow later today.

Mr Walsh and Mrs Shivalkar will provide more information as soon as they are able to.

I am only sorry about the stress and uncertainty that has been caused.  I am however delighted that your exam grades will now be based Centre-assessed grades from your teachers rather than the Calculated grades which downgraded too many grades unfairly.  We remain here to fully support each of you at this time.
