Remote Education Provision
We use Microsoft Teams and Class Charts to deliver live lessons when remote learning is required, building on the remote learning which took place during the pandemic. This enables teachers to engage with students, and for the curriculum to continue effectively when students are not able to attend school.
Our provision will also be supplemented by Oak National Academy lessons and Seneca Learning.
Our remote learning provision enables us to:
- set assignments so that students have meaningful and ambitious work each day in a number of different subjects
- teach a planned and well-sequenced curriculum so that knowledge and skills are built incrementally, with a good level of clarity about what is intended to be taught and practised in each subject
- provide frequent, clear explanations of new content, delivered by a teacher in school and/or through high-quality curriculum resources or videos
- gauge how well students are progressing through the curriculum, using questions and other suitable tasks and set a clear expectation on how regularly teachers will check work
- enable teachers to adjust the pace or difficulty of what is being taught in response to questions or assessments, including, where necessary, revising material or simplifying explanations to ensure students’ understanding
- plan a programme that is of equivalent length to the core teaching students would receive in school, through daily contact with teachers
Microsoft Teams is already part of our Office 365 package and students are able to login through the website/app as they normally would to access Class Charts.
We expect students to ‘attend’ in accordance with their timetable. This means engaging with Microsoft Teams and Class Charts on a daily basis. For those with barriers to IT, we will continue to provide the IT equipment and other additional resources required to ensure students can access the curriculum
Guidance on how to access remote lessons via Microsoft Teams as well as a document on instructions and expectations for student conduct during the sessions are below.
All sessions will be recorded and recordings stored in line with the school’s Online Safety Policy.
During the sessions, students are expected to adhere to the school’s usual behaviour expectations. This includes speaking politely and respecting other members of the school community. Students should be aware that all messages left on the chat function can be seen by their classmates, teachers and parents. If students post anything irrelevant or inappropriate, this will be followed up by staff and students could be barred from joining further sessions on Microsoft Teams. Students should disable their camera facility.
Microphones should be muted unless students are directly asked to contribute by teachers.
