Students are celebrating today at Haileybury Turnford in Cheshunt as GCSE and other vocational qualification results are published. This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic. Results are not comparable to previous years.
For students, the long wait is over and, after a very disrupted 18 months, they can see what they have achieved and are now able to progress to sixth form, college, an apprenticeship or work.
Principal, Robin Newman, said, “Our students should be so proud of these results. They have worked so hard during a period of great uncertainty and significant disruption to their learning. I have been so impressed by their resilience and how they have risen to the challenges they have faced. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Haileybury Turnford staff who taught our students, and also assessed and moderated all of the assessments, to ensure each young person has been awarded with results that truly reflect their ability.”
Jamie Ward achieved 10 grade 9s, Stephanie Pearce achieved 8 grade 9s and 1 grade 8, Arda Gulal achieved 6 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and a Distinction* in Engineering. Yagmur Tek achieved 3 grade 9s, 2 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s. Saphire Brown achieved 2 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s, and we are delighted that they are all joining Haileybury Turnford Sixth Form to continue their studies.
Students were very successful across the full range of subjects, including in the core areas of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and the Sciences. Real excellence was seen in Business, Engineering and in Performing Arts. showing the real breadth in the curriculum for students at Haileybury Turnford.
Ewan Macaulay, Assistant Principal, added “We are delighted that so many students have done so well, and we wish them every success in the next phase of their lives. We are delighted that so many students will be with us at Haileybury Turnford Sixth Form, to study a range of A Level and vocational qualifications, and are very pleased that other students have secured places at college which they so deserve.”
These results for Year 11 students follow Tuesday’s excellent A Level and vocational qualification success for Year 13 students and provides further evidence of the work Haileybury Turnford continues to do for young people in its local community, supported by its sponsor, Haileybury.
